At 21, I was the youngest magazine publisher in the United States. As a woman of color, I was a trailblazer in 1978. Over ninety percent of my customers were white. My magazines were popular with travel agents and the major international airlines, hotels and tourist boards were advertisers.
My glossy magazines featured a different country on the cover. I spent my twenties flying around the world covering the travel industry in Ireland, Kenya, Egypt, Italy, Philippines, Korea, Japan, England, Mexico, the Caribbean and many other destinations. My mission was to explain different countries and cultures to American travel agents. I started with Washington Travel Magazine, then in 1981 I expanded to Philadelphia Travel Magazine and New York Travel Magazine. I was 25 years old publishing three magazines in three cities.
I had three city apartments. Dupont Circle in Washington, Ritten House Square in Philadelphia and Central Park West in New York City. I integrated my Philadelphia apartment building. I was the first non-white tenant at 19th and Walnut.

This demo reel shows a sample of the international TV shows and movies shown on Global Village Network in 1993. The channel's programs reached 7.5 million households in the US and Canada.
I was 32 when I founded a cable TV channel. The content was international. I acquired programming from around the world for an American audience.
The original Global Village Network was a cable TV channel in the Washington DC metro area from 1991-1995. The channel aired programs from Europe and Japan. In the 1990s analogue technology limited distribution. The cable industry took nearly a decade to finally upgrade to digital compression nationwide. The original Global Village was ahead of its time.
Back in 1990, only 4% of the US population had a valid passport. Today a staggering 42% of Americans have passports.
With video streaming and broadband available worldwide, 2021 is the perfect time to bring back Global Village 2.0 on the web. www.GlobalVillage.LIVE
